Spritz Time

Words Charlot Farrugia

Spritz must be one of the most consumed cocktails on the island. It is a refreshing drink especially on a hot summer afternoon and its quite easy to make with just three ingredients and plenty of ice. This cocktail is made up of: a liqueur, prosecco and soda or sparkling water. Many stick to Aperol but there are many other options that one can use for a different twist to this popular drink.

Campari Spritz: using Campari as a base liqueur makes this drink slightly more bitter than your average Aperol Spritz. Made in the same way, two parts Campari, 3 parts prosecco and one part sparkling water, this cocktail is an ideal pre meal drink. Don’t forget to add a slice of orange for that extra tang.

Limoncello Spritz: Limoncello is a beloved digestive Liqueur and it can be transformed into the perfect spritz to take after a meal. Same recipe as the Aperol spritz but with a twist of lemon instead of the orange slice. If you want to take it to another level add some fresh thyme as a garnish.

Pampelle Spritz: Pampelle is a grapefruit based aperitif which is the perfect base for a Spritz. Its tangy citrus flavour makes it a perfect drink for a lazy summer afternoon. Garnish with a slice of grapefruit and a few mint leaves.

Fleur D’Elixir Spritz: This Belgian organic liqueur is made with wild flowers and forest fruit. Its flavours resemble bubble gum so when its made into a spritz it makes it perfect for that cheeky morning spritz to start off your day by the pool on a good note. Garnish with mint and some frozen berries.

Fiorente Spritz: This Liqueur is made with wild elderflowers grown in the foothills of the Apls. It makes for a very refreshing and floral spritz, ideal as a pre-lunch cocktail. Garnish with a slice of lemon.

Italicus Spritz: An elegant Italian Liqueur made from Bergamotto which is a citrus fruit grown in southern Italy. This liqueur makes for a very sophisticated Spritz, ideal for an evening drink to start of your night in the best possible way. Garnish with a slice of orange or lime.

Bajtra Spritz: Made from the prickly pear fruit, this Maltese Liqueur is very fruity and sweet. It will make for a light a fruity spritz which can be enjoyed all day long. Make it extra special by adding a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
