Whereabouts – Artistic impressions of Gozo ~ with Debbie Bonello and Andrew Borg

Capturing a number of scenic spots around the charming island of Gozo, the paintings at the recently opened art exhibition Whereabouts were created by well-known artists Debbie Bonello and Andrew Borg as a tribute to the beauty of Malta’s sister island. Depictions of stark cliffs and colourful fields hang alongside stunning seascapes and secluded bays. A few of the paintings include a building or two, but the main focus is on the unspoiled nature that still prevails around Gozo.

During a ‘meet the artist’ session on Saturday 18th June, Debbie and Andrew heartily greeted their guests and discussed their art with deep affection for their individual impressions of Gozitan scenery. The two artists’ works certainly reflect the passion they both have for painting en plein air. The land and seascapes are portrayed with a unique perspective, some presenting mere snapshots of each location while still offering a glimpse of recognition for the familiar views so beloved by locals. Walking around the gallery certainly brought a fresh appreciation for every beautiful spot found around Gozo.

Whereabouts forms part of the 25th edition of the Victoria International Arts Festival held at Il-Ħaġar Museum in the heart of the Gozitan capital. The exhibition is open Monday to Sunday between 9.00-17.00 and will run until Monday 25th July 2022.
