Surroundings and experiences – Alison Zammit Endrich
Alison has been an art teacher for the past twenty-five years, formerly heading the Art Department at San Anton School. Having always advocated the importance of art students experimenting with a range of media, in order for them to discover their own individual style, Alison has herself developed a passion for experimenting with techniques. This exploration of medium and mounts is what led to her present collection in acrylic on glass, creating an explosion of colour and texture.
“I am inspired by my surroundings and experiences; whether a pilgrimage to Israel, a vivid dream, or the sights and sounds of the Maltese Garigue.”
Alison paints in reverse using her hands, the technique also involves printing in order to create delicate lines and texture. The artist clearly conveys her emotions and experiences through her use of bold colours, sometimes contrasting and other times homogenous.
This year Alison exhibited a selection of her recent works in a collective exhibition at the Wignacourt Museum, Rabat. This was followed by a garden Art Show called ‘Reflections’ where she exhibited 33 of her favourite pieces.
